So you‘ve decided that it’s a wall mirror for you! But when it comes to picking the exact one that will be perfect for your space, it can be tricky! There are so many beautiful designs available, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll work in your home.

So how do you choose? First, consider the size  of the wall mirror that you need. For instance, if it’s a standalone, statement mirror, it’ll need to be big enough to make an impact in the room, as well as having a frame that stands out.

Bounce light around the room with large mirrors, as using lots of small ones won’t do the trick. Smaller ones are better for creating accents, reflecting specific objects and can be used to add interest to a space like in gallery walls.

Next to consider is the shape. A circular mirror creates a soft, modern look, whereas square or rectangular mirrors give a traditional, formal feel to a room. Organic or funky shapes can be used to add a quirky touch to your wall.

Then, think about style. The frame is where the elements of style come in. It could be that your room is quite glamourous, so an ornate frame will work well, or you’re going for industrial, so something in metal or concrete is more appropriate.

Not sure on placement? Mirrors should be hung so their centre is in the at eye level, or the bottom of the mirror should between 15cm and 20cm above the top of your sofa, console table or mantelpiece.

Hanging a mirror takes patience, but using a paper template can make all the difference when it comes to placement. Mark on your paper template where the holes or hanging bracket is, then get your placement on the wall finalised.

From there, you can use the marks on your template to make a mark on the wall as to where you’ll be drilling or hammering. Then, you can remove your paper template from the wall. Hammer or drill into the wall, leaving your nails, screws or bracket ready to hang your mirror.
