Frills are back, baby.
Ultra-girly frills, fringe, florals and a pastel colour palette? It's none other than 'Rococo Revival'. This interiors trend (as predicted by Pinterest) is all about soft, feminine detail, and we’re super excited for it.
Forget quiet luxury, this is romantic, saccharine and over-the-top opulent.
Rococo Revival is set to be a huge trend for this year, and we’re seeing it surge in popularity even now! Rea Bell, our design expert, says, “Ruffles and frills, in particular, are already flourishing for spring 2025. These embellishments align beautifully with the season - especially when introduced through lively pastel shades and patterns.”
Is this trend tickling your fancy? Read on to find out how to make the most of it in your home.
Bye-bye bland and boring, hello Rococo romance.
The colour scheme of your look will set the tone of your space, and if you’re going for unashamedly girly, then it has to be pastels. We’re talking blush pinks, powder blues, lilacs and mint greens paired with gold and cream for a sweet colour palette. Whether it’s a subtle pop of blush pink or the whole room drenched in powder blue, it exudes romance and femininity.
Layer up a couple of different pastel colours through your throws, cushions and bedding for a light, playful feel.
They might not be groundbreaking, but when it comes to patterns in Rococo interiors, florals reign supreme – all year round, and especially for spring. Delicate, detailed and romantic, florals are just effortlessly feminine. Commit to the style and add floral motifs throughout your space (you could start with floral wallpaper on one wall), or just make sure you have a vase of fresh, pink roses on your coffee table – either will work to add a little Rococo flourish.
If you love a flower but you don’t want to overwhelm your space, try incorporating them through embellished details, like an embroidered cushion.
After decades of clean lines, monochromes and plain edging, frills and ruffles are back. And we are here for it! Scalloped hems, decorative piping, pretty, frilly edges and over the top embellishments - it’s an easy way to add depth and luxury to your sofa, your bed or even your window.
Anna Jones, our interiors expert, says, “Minimalism has had its moment, but this year, people are looking for more ways to inject joy and personality into their homes. This is especially true this time of year when the days start getting lighter and we start to see flowers blooming, as this inspires people to explore more energetic colours and designs.”
“Frilly trims and designs might be viewed as old-fashioned and outdated. However, I don’t agree - and it seems others are starting to realise this too. Bedding and cushions that feature ruffled trims and textures help create plush and vibrant layers that bring surfaces to life, adding dimension and visual interest in a way that is flirty and youthful!”
You might want to make a statement with one pretty, frilly cushion. But if you love it, why deprive yourself of joy? Layering different fabrics (and frills) creates a sense of depth and opulence. It’s also a great way to inject your space with your unique personality – no one else will curate those textures and patterns like you!
Fabric, texture and pattern are a major part of this style, which means that you can get the look by layering the embellished bedding, cushions and curtains that you love. It also means that changing your space up is easy.
You may not live in a French palace, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring a touch of the Rococo into your home. The key? Balance the ornate details and soft furnishings with sleek modern furniture. The smallest detail can have the biggest impact when it comes to playful interiors. But don’t be afraid to go all out if it brings you joy!
