roller or roman?

Both roller and roman blinds use simple mechanisms and are a practical option. Roller blinds are more contemporary, perfect for sleek modern spaces. They’re easy to clean and to use, making them perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. They maximise the light from your window when open, as they don’t take up much space in your frame.

Roman blinds are versatile and timeless. They are a great alternative to curtains when placed on an outside, as the folds of fabric add a soft edge to your window. They’re the more traditional option, but they can still look sleek if you use a plain textural fabric. do you need curtains with blinds?

In short, no. But blinds and curtains do make great décor partners. Pairing them together gives you more options for adding in pattern, as well as giving you control of the light levels.

For example, you could make sure that you can block out all the light with blackout blinds, but still have the airy feel of a light pair of curtains when you want some light to filter through. Just don’t go overboard on the clashing patterns – it can be a bit much even in a maximalist space! For a refined look, pair a solid colour blind with a patterned curtain.

For more practical applications, like the kitchen or bathroom, blinds can be happily used on their own.

where to position blinds.

Blinds almost always look the best with an inside mount – i.e. inside your window frame. This will give your window a clean look, and will mean you can add a pair of curtains easily. However, an inside mount will still block some of your view even when open.

If your window frame has some obstructions, like a handle or a crank that might get in the way, or you want to cover the frame itself, then place your blind on an outside mount. This will give you maximum privacy, as well as blocking out more light. It can also make your windows appear larger. Roman blinds are a great option for an outside mount as they look attractive even when open with their folds of fabric.
